The story of getting stuck in a tower by an enchantress and saved by a prince is a story any young girl that has ever experienced being isolated, or even been punished by their mother, can relate to quickly. The tale as we know it was first printed back in 1812 by the legendary Brothers Grimm, but has its basis in myths that have been told for centuries. It has been retold and published in many other media such as motion pictures and stage performances. Movies like Shrek, and TV programs including the old sci-fi show Dr. Who have also showcased Rapunzel as a side or guest character, on occasion poking fun at her, and at times treating her with the highest regard. Rapunzel has also found her way into capitalism in the form of dolls and Halloween Costumes across the globe.
In Germany, the home of the Brothers Grimm, there are statues dedicated to Rapunzel such as many a tower with long golden hair hanging out of the window, for example the fairy tale garden in Ludwigsburg, Germany and in the Old Market of Dresden in Saxony, Germany.
